Why does the City of Dacono need to implement a moratorium to update regulations regarding oil and gas?

Current zoning and land use regulations related to oil and gas development were drafted more than 20 years ago. Since then, the set-up of oil and gas operations has changed, so it’s necessary to develop updated standards to consider when the City reviews new applications. The six-month moratorium gives the City time to form best management practices to better ensure public health, safety, and welfare is protected when considering future oil and gas development within city limits.
